When you’re called the ‘Rolls-Royce of fine fragrance and body products’ by Rolls-Royce itself, then you know you’ve created something truly special. Mitchell and Peach is that company, crafting exceptional scented creations, a selection of which can be found in every guest room.
The Mitchell and Peach story started in the 1890s when the Mitchell family began farming the land in Sevenoaks, Kent, keeping livestock and growing oats, wheat and hay. By 1922, when they had expanded into other crops such as hops, gooseberries, apples and cobnuts, the family also took a corner stand in the old Covent Garden fruit and vegetable market, near to where the hotel stands today.
Now, Jod Mitchell represents the fifth generation to cultivate the land. His heart lies in the lavender fields he planted with his father in 2008, when, after working in publishing, he hankered to return to the farm, promptly planting 30 acres of lavender. The crop was of such high quality, with a wonderful peachy tone (hence the name of the brand) he distilled the oil, blending it with complementary floral notes such as rose and larkspur, to create his first fragrance Flora No.1.
Today, the range includes another standout scent called English Leaf, also incorporated into bodycare products from hand wash to body cream. It’s a distinctly green fragrance with tomato leaf and herbs, a combination that lifts
it out of the norm, right into nature.
When guests have travelled from far and wide to stay with us in Covent Garden, it’s lovely to know the family who ran a stall that once stood in the market now supply our hotel, just around the corner.
