Beano There, Haven’t Done That!
Mischief, Mayhem and Madness
Mischief, Mayhem and Madness
Expect mischief, mayhem and madness at the major new exhibition at Somerset House entitled Beano: The Art of Breaking the Rules. In an homage to Britain’s longest running children’s comic, which first appeared in 1938, take a trip through Beanotown with larger-than-life recreations of the most iconic backdrops and check out original drawings and rare artefacts from a heritage of irreverence.
There are tonnes of surprises, with highlights including the artist Nicola Lane reimagining the hero, Dennis the Menace, at 70 years old, and a new catapult game that allows audiences to get in touch with their rebellious streak and sling rotten tomatoes at the world’s (virtual) great works of art. Who said you have to behave at an art gallery?
Just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel, along the Strand, One Aldwych has partnered with the exhibition to offer themed cocktails or mocktails and a delicious Bangers & Mash menu – all in view of our very own Beano the Dog sculpture, who has been a faithful meeter-and-greeter to our guests for many years.
